Fulfilling the Great Commission for over 100 years.
The First Baptist Church of Rosenberg started in August 1896 from the efforts and visions of three men: C.P. Osborne, R.P. Davant, and H.F. Curry. T.E. Muse was the first pastor.Â
The first building was 36 by 50 feet and construction began in April 1899 on a lot donated by R.T. Mulcahy. Soon after its completion, the building was destroyed in the hurricane of 1900. Undaunted, the members met in a car donated by the railroad until a public school building was purchased in 1901 and converted into a house of worship.
In those early years a Sunday School, Sunbeam Society, Baptist Young People Union, library, and teachers meeting were established. In 1912 a new sanctuary was completed. It was the first structure in Rosenberg to have electric lights. A new Sunday School building was completed in 1934 and a two story educational building in 1941.
The 1950's brought air conditioning and a Fellowship Building located at Avenue I and First Street. The church called its first full time Minister of Music and Education. A graded choir program was established and the music ministry grew.Â
A new sanctuary was built in the early 1960's. Through the years previous educational space was remodeled and additional space built. The current fellowship hall was built in 1985. The sanctuary was remodeled in 1988 and stained glass windows and panels were installed.
First Baptist Church of Rosenberg is now well into its second century of service. Vibrant worship, solid Bible preaching and teaching and Christian fellowship all help to build up the church members and extend their witness to the community and to the world.
